Wet tanning - split or tube tails

So if you tube the tail of a fox, skunk, or coyote etc and salt/drain it dry; would it take a commercial wet tan well? Or would they want it split?

Split them

Better salt coverage, better tanning agent contact, better drumming.

Don't split

Why cause yourself extra sewing. Tube the tail, cut small hole in the very tip. Pull a piece of cotton cloth through the tail and leave it in there during tanning. Works great
