walrus ivory

I was handed a walrus tusk, about 12 inches long. It was used as a cribbage board, ugh. They want me to fill the holes in with epoxy and white powder. But there has to be a better way, so they're not noticable?

I think there is always going to be a transition between the ivory and your plug material-no matter what you use.You might have to mist some ivory paint lightly over the plugged holes to blend it,then stain and streak the surface to match whatever the rest of the tusk looks like, then mist the whole thing with a clear semi-gloss(lightly).I would use a white Pora Kast. That stuff is very close and turns more ivory with time.I think no matter what you use,you will need to blend it anyway.
