This is going to sound like a strange question. A friend of mine is a historian of working herding dog breeds. I mentioned to her that I had once seen a page in a book, whose title I have forgotten, that showed taxidermied Scotch collies (that's what most people think of as Lassie type collies) from various years. The collection illustrated how breeds of dogs change in appearance. I think this collection began in the late 1800's or maybe early 1900's and spanned several decades.
I have been unable to track down in which book I saw photographs of the collection or the actual location of the collection. I asked the Smithsonian, which said the collection was not theirs.
I have no idea how to go about researching this but getting an answer has piqued my interest so I am looking.
Does anyone on this forum know?

Is LGD-L and Herding-L still around?
The basic idea is to pose this to interested parties, not taxidermists. Go to a herding dog eList or eGroup and ask them there.
I think this is the book you are looking for.
