I was wondering if any one had used the new McKenzie tan. I just got done oiling two bobcats for lifesize mounts. I am a die hard lutan F and tan oil fan but after talking with McKenzie and reading the instructions it seemed like a real good product. The oil that they send smells and look like regular tan oil exect that after nutralizing you skip the luten F procees towel dry the skin then oil and let it set for 4-5 hrs then wash, redry and mount/ freeze. since it is new I was not sure how many other people used system

doing deer, did the second McKenzie tan yesterday, got one going right now. I left it overnight, I just cant trust the 4-5 hours, I will go at least 12 for me. I rinsed it out three times to get the hair clear, rolled it up in a towel to remove the bulk of water, then tumbled. I like it. I still will use other tans for other things, but I really like the McKenzie tan.
I just did my first tan. It was with McKenzie Tan and it was a Bobcat. It turned out nice and soft, mounted really nice. Jeff
Thanks for the info I want to wait but im in a bind for time so I have to mount one of the cats tonight. Jeff did you wait the 4-5 hrs before mounting or did you wait longer like Mr T?
I have done w.t. deer, axis and bobcats with McKenzie. I do the 4-5 hours and have never had any problems.
I've mounted a dozen deer, one coyote, a squirrel, a mink, various rump mounts, even wall hangings (using the McKenzie oil) with great results. Never had one slip, good stretch, and soft white leather. Now I haven't been doing this for more that a couple of years, and I've never tried anything else.., but hey, it works for me!
I usually let it set over night, in a garbage bag.
