Hello,
Were the Inchumuk squirrels on the home page carcass cast mounts or excelsior wrapped with balsa heads?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I guess you'd have to ask Henry

But old guys are a lot like old dogs. Probably used the method that got him here in the first place.

Inchumuk will be at the Western Regionals this summer if you get a chance to attend , he is very approachable. I have a video of a squirrel mounting seminar he did for our state association many years ago. If I can find it I will let you know if it has the info on it you are looking for.

Jim, I had the opportunity of working with Henry Wichers at my studio in Phoenix.Arizona in the !980's. As Mary says he is a great guy. I spent about 6 weeks with him and his son. We also hunted deer with him in southern Arizona. We cast a likesize Coues deer at my shop and it is now being sold by Research Mannikins. Back to the squirril questions . We mounted some abert squirrils and he mounted them with diagrams and excelsior wrapped bodies and carved balsam heads, somtimes hw used the real skulls. He coated the excelsior bodies with a special mache mixture with dextrine glue to cover up the wrapping. as for the ears he turned them and supplied themwith lead liners. When I published The American Taxidermist magazine he wrote an article for me with a full discription of this squirrel mounting techniques. If you send me your address I will send you a copy of the procedure. I was lucky enough to win his award at the NTA comprtition in 1987.with a mounted abert squirrel. Hope this helps.

And for those of you who want to me Harry Paulson

Harry has consented to do two seminars at the NTA Convention in Billings where he'll talk excelsior wrapping (albeit on birds). Come see us in Billings in July.
