need opinion on salting

I,m considering skipping the salting prosess. I have had capes that I was afraid might slip, so I skipped the salting and put them right on in the pickle bath and proceeded with the tan and I cant see 2 cents worth of difference in them. What is your opinion on this?

Glen and Bruce and others may chime in but ill tell you my opinion
salt is great and time proven and is the safe way to go
but
Laurier post here and goes to the pickle first and he says hes been doing it that way for a awfully long time with no problems
but again
o.k. here i go
if i had a cape in question i would stop rot, then split and rough flesh then soak it in a strong brine with wtds leatherizing acid combo for 30 min.
then proceed with the pickle and tan of your choice
if i have a fresh cape i would do the same up front but i would jrts
NO PICKLE and smile as that sucker flies on the mold
this combo seams like a winner so far
now i flesh and thin the heck out of a hyde
so there is a lot in the quotation of a method
individual talents and so on
times are changing with AUX. PRODUCTS like stop rot
others im sure will add to this

o.k. guys let me have it

Personaly, I salt dry everything,And i meen dry, like, stiff as a board dry.Salt is cheap. My reasons for doing so are many,The two biggest being it sets the epidermis and locks in the hair, secondly , it buys you time to work w/ the skins without haveing to trust your customers hides to the power co. , and an old freezer(cheap insurance).Just my take on things . I've noticed I had loose hair problems on every cape that I didn't salt.I rarely have problems like this when I salt down a skin,it's apparent to me that there must be something to setting the hair with the salt,so I don't take chances anymore, I salt before the pickle, that's been my experence anyway .
