Ok first off you need reference or should have some on hand. I keep a full skull with me with the ears attached to be able to see where the ears are located. You'll see where the or how the points or the cartilage is attached to the head and where it co insides with the eyes and how the ears lay on the head.
If you don't have the reference you can take a straight edge and at the corner of the inside of the eyes make a line going to the back of the head. From there set your ears in the right position you want and mark the outside of the ears with a marker. After that I take a fordem tool and grid out that spot so the ears can snap in the form. I'll make a concave groove for teh bottom of the ear to sit in and to top or where the point is it'll lay flat on the head.
I'll then glue in the ear liners in the hide and begin to mount. I'll lay a good bead of silicone latex caulk in the hole that I grooved out and place the ear liners in that. If needed some clay around the ear and let set. If your having some problems with the top not setting in flat you didn't take out enough but a upholstery pin will hold them in place till the hide paste and silicone sets. This is how I do it so there may be other ways but I like this the most cause it sets the ear in the form real nice and locks in place.
