hidepaste and rabbits

Are there any problems using hide paste for a rabbit mount because the skin is so thin? I was wondering if it would soak thru causing the hair to get matted? Thanks Ed

Do you have holes all in it?

I haven't done a rabbit yet nor do I plan to but I have skint(how was that) many of them out several years ago and don't recall them being any thinner then the trukey i just filled with caulk. I would say just be real careful not to get it in the hair or hare when sewing him up.

It won't be a problem,in fact,it may reduce some ripping by helping the skin slide better.

Thin skin a problem.

If you do not use caulk or some hide paste the skin will be very fragile after the mount is dry. Rabbit skins have a tendency to drum because they dry so fast. The caulk slows drying and gives that thin skin some support as it glues it down. Imagine touching the finished mount and having your finger go right through the skin. And this happened to me years ago. Rabbits have dense hair and I have never seen the white, tan or gray paste we use show through. And I hate getting rabbit hair up my nose.
