Wire Wheel Method. Will a Brass wheel work?

Submitted by aj on 3/19/06 at 11:49 PM. ( ) 70.105.157.60

I went looking for a mew/heavy Wire Wheel today to flesh my coyote with after reading about this method on here. I could not find a store that had these, closest I found was a Brass wheel. Will that work or what?

thanks!

aj

Hey aj,
Almost any kind of wire wheel will work to some degree.
For a Coyote a med. wheel works best. If it is too soft you will have to put too much pressure on it and the heat will build up and risk slipping problems. Too coarse and tearing will be a problem, especially when you're new to it.
I like the Brass wheel because if it sits for months between uses it may rust up on you if it is steel. Especially if you defat after salting. Some cheaper wheels are just Brass coated so you may want to watch for that. Stainless is the best but I haven't found one soft enough or one I can afford.
Happy Wheeling....

is the best, we have a machine and bought it from out west ,when we got it, it had carbon wire wheels in it (6 of them)they lasted about 2 months, ordered new ones and it took six weeks to get them @ $78.00 each some places wanted up to $125.00 each, in all we were down for 6 weeks and cost app. $600.00 for brushes and new 1 inch shaft, when we bought it was suppose to have stainless in it ,contacted seller about it to reimburse us for them he said he would have to talk to his partner about it and get back to us ,haven't heard a thing from them, must have call display when we call, that will be 1 yr. in april make sure your brushes are stainless these are still going strong good luck Cam p.s 16 gage wire works well
