Earlier I submitted the "Green Belly" post, I was just reading through the archives about fleshing the red fox that I spoke of in the previous post. I Saw some that said as long as the fat & meat are off the hide that fleshing a red fox is not necessary? Would'nt you have to remove all of the membrane from the skin? I always thought that if the membrane was left on that the tan would not take. I am using Liqua Tan. I have a Dakota V and I am afraid that when I am done it will look like it was fleshed with a brush hog! I'll take any fleshing advise I can get.

Yes you should try and remove the membrane. This can be tough but take it to a wire wheel and work from the tail to the head. It'll take about thrity minutes or so to do this and you'll also get better stretch. If it's left on the tan will still take but you'll have a ton of shrinkage with it. So my advise is remove it.
The best advice I've tried so far is using a pressure washer to flesh my hides. It's sooooooo easy and works real well for small mammals like fox, coyote, bobcat, etc....
for 24 hours it will pull off by hand,,, EASY,,, then resalt
Will take you 5 minutes that way
wether it`s male or female...green belly is caused by none other than the skin starting to rot because the heat of the belly. Even if placed in a freezer right away alot of times you`ll end up with the green belly syndrome..or if the fox/yote/cat lies dead in a trap over night when it`s warm it will have the same condition..usually they`ll tan up ok but don`t bank on it all the time...best thing to do is skin any critter the first chance ya get
