When I got my lamb skin back from the tannery it was a bit dirty. Can I wash it with soap and water now or should I use some cleaner after I mount it? Another thing I'm wondering is how do I prevent the wool from felting? Just wash gently? Any input would be appreciated,. Thanks.

WHAT TANNERY DID YOU USE I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TANNERY I USE BUT MY BUDDY TOLD ME THEY CORRECTED JUST CURIOUS
I use Pacific Leather and Fur here in Canada. This is the first lamb I've sent them so it's not like it's reoccuring problem. What did you do to clean the skin?
If your Sheepskins or Lambskins look dirty - it's likley your Tannery doesnt use a good degreaser to remove the Lanolin from the wool! Once it's removed - the debris and greasy look disappears from the Wool. In fact, it looks like its been bleached - but its only been cleaned!
If you are unsatisfied with how it looks - use a good "Lanolin Cutting" Degreaser like our Wool Degreaser (Catalog #WD-608) to do the job. It cuts the Lanolin, isn't absorbed by the Wool, and it rinses free without any residual. Your customers will swear you bleached it - but instead it only needs cleaning.
cosican
or what would you recommend
It wont prevent the Wool from matting - they all do - but it will definitely wash out the lanolin and consequently all the debris and oils in the wool. It also will rinse free - no residual left behind in the Wool.
