Yes it's possible. There is no cure. If the dog is still alive then you're ok.

Check with your doctor.

If the dog that bit you died of rabies, then by all means get to the doctor like Don said. You can still get the post exposure vaccine, as long as you have no symptoms. Rabies can take up to 18 months to incubate in humans, but once it does you're done. If the dog is still alive then he didn't have rabies because the incubation period is ten days to two weeks.

Pre exposure vaccine

You can get a pre exposure rabies shot.
You can check with the health dept. in your county or with your doctor.
You have to take 3 shots. (in the arm).
Shots are painless.(like any other shot)
I got them.
You take a shot and go back one week later for the second shot.
You go back two weeks after that to get a 3rd shot.
Every couple of years, your doctor can run a test & see if you need a booster shot or not.

Your done?

Brian, what did you mean by "but once it does you're done" I know what your saying but does it mean that once it has incubated there isn't a cure?

Get the shots!

Yep, get the shots. I had to because of work, but I would think that getting the shots would be important in this industry, hunting, trapping the works. I had a bit of trouble with the shots. I had an allergy reaction to them, but I'm allergic to everything. Gave me a localized reaction, swelling and itching and a headache. Get the shots, I'm glad I did. I got them at my local health department am going in for the boosters next month.
