Co-worker has bobcat that he hit with car. He had it legally checked with game warden. Do bobacts shed hair in spring. Also, can I legally buy this from him? I'm in Ky. Wanting to mount for display.

I'm not sure if the shed in the spring, but I would almost guess they do. Also, I'm sure you would need a taxidermist license to buy the "inedible parts" for any reason.

to add that I am a licensed taxidermist. Just not sure of Ky law concerning road kill. I was the one who informed him that it had to be viewed by a warden to legally possess. Now that is done, can he sell possession to me?

Why not call your wildlife department? Not to give a short answer but often legal questions are asked here and answered. In the event someone answers you wrong, you are the one who will pay the penalty if caught so rather than take an opinion here on a legal question it seems better to ask the authorities. My thoughts, Aaron H.

As a licensed KY taxidermist you can buy or sell legally tagged animals other than migratory birds. I have done it several times, some for resale. As long as the cat has a disposal tag you should be fine. You will need a CITES tag to sell it out of KY. Only problem is KY F&W won't issue a CITES for a disposal tagged animal.

Summer bobcat

Just yesterday I salted a bobcat that the USFWS brought me to do for their display at our local refuge. It was a roadkill that they picked up last summer and finally got around to having it mounted. Our summers here are extremely hot! averaging 105-110 deg. with heat waves pushing it into the 120's The fur is very short, almost as if it were shorn, but it shows all the spots. Very unique pelt.
