I have troble with my mounted alligators sweating. Its caused from the saltcoming out of the hide. I pickle and tan the hide useing lutan. Has anyone any suggestions... Stewart.

Stew,
Sometime back I did a lifesize 'gator about 12' long. It constantly amazed me at how many times I had to fill in gaps that formed where the skull body juncture is formed. Every time I finished a repair I swore that it would be "done". After one year, it finally stopped shrinking. I had read in a Breakthrough issue that it took a 'LONG TIME' for reptiles, alligators in particular, to dry. They were right. Its probably not the salt, just the hide doing what it does naturally to dry. All I can say is be patient, it will dry, some day!
Thanks, but it is salt. Little white specks will be on the hide after the sweat dries. You can taste the salt. I've washed the hide
before and after mounting. It seems to be worse on big gators.
Thanks anyway. Stewart.
