I am going on a bear hunt next month and am looking for some pointers from the experts. If I am lucky enough to get a good black bear I plan on having is full body mounted. I have caped tons of deer, but never skinned out a bear. I would like to know how most taxidermists prefer the bear to be skinned.
Thanks,
Brandon

Before asking that question you should decide who you want to do your bear and ask them.Different taxidermists have different preferences when it comes to that. Some don't want anything but dorsal cuts.I personally can't stand dorsal cuts for large animals and would much prefer a ventral cut, similar to how it would be cut for a rug. There are instructions on the ventral cut at http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov/hunt_trap/hunting/bearskin.cfm
i like animals that are case skinned. that way i have all of my options open when i work on it and i can go for a dorsal, ventral or any other cut i want based on the form that will be used.
Brandon it all depends on positioning sometimes dorsal cuts work well but u have to constently take the form off the base to test fit with a ventral u dont besides u cant get the streatch with a dorsal cut that u can get with a ventral cut especaily on brown bears
