I have a full mount coyote that I mounted and it was the first time using a wet tan from a tannery, The hair is very grease I was going to wait till the mount dries then bring it out side and wash it with johnson shampoo then blow dry it. Has anybody tried doing this?. I have read it in a Breakthrough Magazine that it has been done, but I am a little nerves of ruining it. Thanks Rich

Use Bloodout/Degreaser or Eliminator to wash it with. The reason that the Smithsonian used such a mild soap was that the mount was a hundred years old and it wasn't greasy.
Cleans very well, I use it on all my deer.
I have used it several times and it will make it squeaky clean and shine like a full moon!
You wouldn't have to wash with shampoo if you have a tumbler I would do that instead of washing after mounting. I add a little mineral spirits (odorless) to the tumbler before I put the hide in. If you do not have a tumbler you can put the spirits directly on the hide and rub the sawdust in. Let it set for a few minutes and blow it out with compressed air. This should take out the greasy feel without shampoo. A friend of mine had the same problem and I told him to try this and he said it worked well. Just another idea, Mark
Sounds a lot like me writing before I read. LOL
Thanks for the Help. Rich
