This fall, I will be purchasing skins for the fur trade. I figure that many will be cased before they ever get to me. However, some will be whole frozen or fresh. Any idea what I should do with the carcases? Necks, skulls, and carcases for mounts have been frozen and tossed on trash day but I'm thinking I will have many more to deal with if I start buying furs. I know I won't have the freezer space to store them untill trash day. And I think I would run out of places in the woods to toss them (coyote chow). Any one have an idea on this topic? Thanks for the info!

At some point I WILL learn to spell!
some wil come to your door...others will let you take them to a rendering plant
You could sell the skulls on here, taxidermy.net. and I'm sure, if their in good condition, you could get a couple bucks off of each skull. The buyers will even pay shipping. So, there you go, you got rid of the skulls, and have a little extra spending money. As for the carcasses. I usually, like you say, put them out for coyote chow. Except Beavers and Muskrats. My dogs have taken a fancy to eating them. The only other option I can think is to bury them. I found an abandoned badger hole one year and probably filled it with dozens of carcasses. Just don't go by that spot when spring hits, yuck, LOL!
I plan on selling the skulls in the shop as well as a few of the furs and other "northwoods gifts".
I fully prep and salt dry them, so if you wanted to buy any from me and have me ship them, I would be the one worrying about carcasses. I have 2 farms and some woods I use LOL. The farms, I have a specific spot at, 1 is a dairy farm and I can dump on the cow carass pile and the farmer puts old hay and silage over and it composts.
Why not just sell me a few for a few dollars. As long as they aren't damaged, the carcasses you'd otherwise be throwing away could be made into a nifty skeleton mount. Trappersteph, you're only in the next state over. Your compost pile sounds like a gold mine to an osteologist such as myself. Let me know, and we can work something out. Thanks.
