I noticed tonight when I was looking at my one bear I mounted that on the belly there isnt much hair and the skin shows through very easily. I was wondering if anyone paints this? And if so what color? Also for the ears, Ive been using the magic ears and I like it. But how do you other guys make sure the ears stay where they are supposed to when you mount it. I make a hole in the side of the head where the ears goes and put some clays around that then put some clay around the ear butt on the skin and when I get it where it needs to go I push the ear butt in that little hole and blend the clays together smoothly. Jus twanted to know if im doing that the right way, it seems like every critter I mount the ears are what gives me the most problems. Thanks for any help, Kevin

When finishing the feet on a bear what color should I use to paint them. I looked at my reference and some are fleshy with black sploots and some are all black, but is it a pure black or some other color, Thanks again, Kevin

Skin dye

Kevin:
I always use a skin dye to darken the skin around the arm and rear leg pits on my bears. these areas are as you know very thin haired and make for a unsightly rug or lifesize mount. apply with an airbrush as you would any normal paint and use a old hair brush to brush away the hair as you paint to get good coverage. On black bears I use black skin dye and on color phase bears I normally use a dark brown. You'll like the results.
