Cleaning and polishing a Great Dane tooth

I have a Great Dane canine tooth that I would like to clean and polish to eventually make a necklace out of it. So far I tried boiling it in salt water, which worked well to remove any flesh, but now there is a sort of a rough bony area where the tooth was in his gum. Any suggestions on how to remove that and get a nice even shiny finish over the whole tooth would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Paul, Just use some sandpaper. Start with about 200 grit and then 400 and 600. Shine on the leg of your bluejeans. Use body paper from an auto supply store-NOT sandpaper for wood. Enjoy, Aaron H.

Thanx
