Does anyone taxidermist know why when u clean a skull, dry it out,put the stuff on it to make it white, leave it on for 7 days. Why does it look yellow when u rinse it off? Can u redo it,will it take the yellow out?
Thank u

Did you degrease it?
Is the yellow a uniform thing or is it patchy? Patches of yellow are most likely grease from an impoper degreasing. How did you clean the skull? Soaking skulls in chemicals such as bleach and some soaps can alter the color. In such cases it would be very difficult to remove this, but if degreasing was the problem you can simply soak the skull in acetone, soapy dawn water, or a taxidermy degreaser. Also, I wouldn't leave your whitening agent on that long. Depending on what you're using, this too may have affected your skull color. There are a lot of things that can affect how the finished product looks. Even the quality of the raw skull affects the overall result. If you describe the process used we could probably pinpoint what may have caused this problem.
I would like to start painting on cattle & coyote skulls that I can get out of a bone pile from a ranch. What steps do I take & what do I use to get them ready for paint & what kind of paint. (How do you treat them to get the smell & if any, any minor excess off of them & then bleach them & anything else before you start painting?) Also if you wanted to use rope or leather braid what type of glue do you remommend?
