bear feet

I rec'd my first tanned black bear hide for 1/2 body mount. The foot
pads have been split. What is the best or proper filler to be used to fill the feet back in? I was thinking something inexpensive like
Bondo or clay. I have used the spray insulating foam in a can from the hardware store, but not sure if chemicals would cause hair to slip over time.

Pads

should be filled with clay, as well as the toes. Then either sew or nail the pads as close to the original cut as you can; then use Apoxie Sculpt or similar after the pads have dried to cover the incision. Use a towel to texture the pads to your liking.

One thing to add

to Bill's advice is to use a piece of necking material instead of a towel to texture. Apply your apoxie and feather it out completley over the seam. Then take a piece of necking material about an inch in diameter and dip the end in water but don't soak it. Dab over the apoxie to texture. Takes about 5 min. to complete and when you blend some paint over it, you can't even tell there was a seam. Good luck and enjoy.

At school we used clay and mixed some apoxie in with it. If it gets to dry add a little warm water. Smooth it out around then take a scrub brush and dab it over the pad where u fixed it. Then after drys paint with burnt umber.
Good Luck
Lisa
