Couple of posting down we got into a discussion of pros and cons of
glueing or sewing bear rugs. Few thought if u hot glued rugs you weren't
doing quality work. The hot glue holds a lot better then the sewing in
my opinion, I use to sew my rugs then went to hot glueing. To prove a
point get you some scrap felt and a piece of scrap tanned hide get
your glue good and hot, glue it together and glue your scrap hide on
there glue on a little block of wood let it dry for awhile now try to
pull it apart do the same with sewing let me know which one you can pull
apart the easiest. I bet it will be the one that you sew.

Janie send one mounted bear head to B'J's rugs and I promise you will never glue another bear in your shop again. In fact rugging bears will be a thing of the past for you.Trust me! Have one of your hot glued bears on display and one of B'J's on display and let the customer decide. They will easily pay 200.00 more for the pros which is more than enough to cover all expenses and put extra money in your pocket not to mention saved time and expense of glueing yourself.Try it.

Janie,
I think Rob is right on. Hot glue, for all it's good qualities carries too much baggage. I makes the fabric stiffer than without it and it also makes it thicker. It really isn't a glue, it's a layer of hot melted plastic.
When , and I mean WHEN, I did my own rug work, I used 3M spray glue and glued the batting to the hide. Then I sprayed the batting and laid down the felt. Then I tacked it and sewed the binding by hand.
Then I got really smart. I mounted the rug shell and sent the whole thing to BJ's. No muss, no fuss. The hide was trimmed, bound, and machine sewn.
I'm always telling my customers that if they want a quality mount, they should take it to a professional. When it comes to rug work, I take my own advise seriously.

I will give them a try. I did use to sew my rugs and even had machine
that sewed through leather part and it just got to where I watched a
video about hot glueing and i tryed it and was very pleased with the results
also saved alot of time. Always open to new suggestions. How is there
turnaround time on getting it back to you.

As we speak, Betty Jane tells me 8 to 10 weeks.
those that try hot glue are usually novices looking to avoid the cost of a quality leather machine and want a quick mount/rug-do you they, you realize the stiff and brittle effect that hot glue does to a soft tanned hyed to be a rug? hot glue also deteriates in a short time,we sew, repair many rugs that glue has failed-do it right the first time and let a pro handle your rugging,We are the rug pro-jenkins studio
