Anyone out there know of a cheap source for RTV Silicone rubber other than "Smooth-On" ?
Thanks in advance

I have used Silicone Caulk for reproducing antlers with good succes.
I use it to make cheaper one time molds, I always use them more than that, but it has worked very well.
I have had a few tubes not cure, I think maybe they were frozen or something. I always try to use up all that I get for a project and not keep any extra around.
I have used it as well for antler replica's, but, the white colored caulk seems to be better than the clear. It rips less, and is more flexable and better to work with. If that helps you, good.
I use just the white caulk now and it has been great.
You can also smooth the caulk after putting it on in thin lifts, You have ot do this or it will not set up, by rubbing it with your finger wet with rubbing alcohol.
You will need to wait just a few mins to let a skin start forming, but then it smooths off really nice.
It is better to keep allthe small lifts smooth, then you will keep better track of how the thickness if coming along. Sometimes it is hard to tell if you are getting the silicon on uniformly. I sometimes lightly mist the silicon with paint, but it is better to keep the silicon pure so it will not seperate anywhere.
Anyway, feel free to email me anytime, and that goes for anyone else that would like some pointers or help figuring out things.
I like a gopod challenge and will help figure out anything.
What brand caulk do you use on antlers? How thick do you apply it? How long do you need to wait between coates? Thats all the dumb questions I can think of right now. Thanks for your patients,,,,James,,, and thanks for your input on my question on reproduction antlers
