snake question

I am sending a rattlesnake off to be freeze dried. My question is when it returns will there be much painting involved, like on a turkey head or will it keep alot of it's natural color. all help appreciated.

It should retain it's color

but if not, a quick shot of WD-40 will bring the colors back out. I haven't had much experience with freeze dried specimens, so you should definitely get a second opinion on the WD-40 application (works very well on tanned specimens). Good luck.

Color should be fine

Most snakes hold their colors very well after the process. I don't know of any tricks to use if they do lose some color, but I doubt that painting is a viable option. Its the bugs you gotta watch out for. Keep it safe from them and it should be good for quite a long time.
