maintaining old tortoise shell

I have had an old very large (2 1/2 foot) turtle or tortoise shell for about 20 years. About twice a year I wash it and use wax on it...my sister suggested lip stick, colorless. But it seems to be losing its color and shine these last couple of years...is there something else that I could be using that would help preserve its color and shine?

Like floors, it probably has an unsightly wax build-up as they say on TV. Check the household cleaning products for wax stripper/remover.

Then re-wax with TURTLE WAX!
