Thirty years of stuffing stuff and it has finally happened. Someone calls and wants me to mount a 12 foot gator. I don't have a clue as to the best method for dealing with that kind of hide. What do you guys do with them. Hell, that will never fit through that little door on my autotanner. LOL What would you guys charge for mounting a gator this size.

I am going through the same thing. I have two in the shop now, and have spent the last three weeks trying to find info.The best info I have found so far is a step by step article written in Taxidermy Today Magazine by Roger Martin. It is well detailed and pretty well illustrated. The head has to be seperated and done like a fish in alcohol and water mix and the hide can be fleshed,pickled,and tanned.The article is in three parts in Taxidermy Today,part one is in the Nov./Dec.2000,part 2 is in Jan./Feb.2001, part 3 is in May/June 2001. As for price, I know someone that got one mounted last year by a taxidermist in New Orleans, it was a 12 footer and cost him $3500. I hope this helps, Good luck

i have mouted several5-6 feet gator iflesh the skin then i use afoam core an complete with fish filler and i use any dry preservatiove for the skin areas that i cant flesh like the head i use formaldehide this way colors are protected and odor at all then i liter clear for shinning
