Hi. I shot a timber rattler today, and didn't have time to clean it this evening. I've got it in a garbage bag in my fridge, and plan on cleaning it after work tomorrow afternoon.
My main question is, as I've kept it refrigerated since I shot it (with the exception of the 45 min trip back home), will the meat still be edible when I clean it tomorrow afternoon? I've read what most of you say about tanning the skin, and I plan on following that advice (by fleshing it, freezing it, and ordering a tanning kit), but I'd like to know if the meat will still be good after about 30 hrs in the fridge, without gutting the animal.
Also, I'd like to preserve the head. Any advice?
Any advice for the best way to "mount" the rattle (with the base "nub") as a necklace would be appreciated, as well.
Thanks,
Fergi
