I have been a part time taxidermist for two years now and have staid as buisy as i want just mounting mammals. But there are some people wanting me to mount timber rattle snakes. I am unshure of the laws since I think the timber rattler is indangered in TN. Do I have to have some type of permit? If anyone knows please let me know. If it is agaist the law how serious is the fine (just curious). Thanks for any information.

Tell those clients no. It is illegal to possess, bother and kill timber rattlers in Tennessee and you can get in trouble for doing taxidermy on them. Check with Tenn Wildlife Resource to find out about the legalities with animals in your state. You could offer those clients reproduction snakes and keep the business if you like.

the timber (or canebrake) has been added to the protected list, along with the Eastern Diamondback. like the others said, get an updated list of the protected species. here, the copperhead and water moccassin are still open for mounting.

I spoke with a wildlife officer and he said that it is against the law. Even though I was offered a good fee I am going to pass. He said it was punishable just for haveing one a minimum $2500 and maximum $100000 with posible time in Prision. NOT WORTH IT !
Thanks DW
