What is a good method of dying tanned hides and a source for the dyes?
You never mentioned hair-on or Leather! Do you want to dye the hair or the leather portion? Depending upon which you want to do makes a big difference in the type of dye you would use. However, whichever you choose, you must first retan the skins using a Chrome tan so the skins can withstand the high temperatures used to apply a permanent dye and fix it! For leather, Dyes will run about $2.82/Lb. to $15.56/Lb. depending on the color you need. Some are available in the smaller 55 Lb. quantities. This should be enough to dye several hundred skins. If you are interested in dyeing - contact Rittels! These dyes are available in 55 Lb. packs and the larger 264 Lb. Drums.
These are hides tanned hair off using EZ 100 and wouls only need enough
dyr for about 20 hides.
