Lossing hair in a deer rug

Submitted by David Dale on 9/21/00. ( )

I have a deer skin that was tanned professionally. For some time now the hair is falling out. Is there any thing I can do to stop the loss of hair?

You can only slow it down!

Unfortunately, WT deerskins make poor throw pieces. Because of their hollow hair, they are not suited to be used where they will recieve wear - like over the back of a chair or as a rug. With age, and drying, the hair has a habit of snapping off and shedding - it cant be stopped - but it can be slowed down if you use a liquid lanolin spray on the hair. The Lanolin is non-drying and keeps the hair flexible! This happens no matter how good or what type of tan was used to tan it! If you cant find such a spray locally - contact us at Rittels Tanning Supply. It's listed in our on-line website pricelist!
