Air dried beaver pelt

Submitted by Patrick on 11/23/00. ( ) 207.236.147.107

I have just received 2 air dried beaver pelts for tanning. My question is, can I put them directly into the pickle bath or should I re-hydrate and salt them first? Thank you for your help.

Rehydrate them first!

Rehydrate them before you put them in the pickle. Use a Salt brine. Mix 2 Lbs. of Salt to each 1 gallon of water and soak them overnight. If not relaxed the next day, work them on your fleshing beam with your knife to break them up a bit and throw them back in until they let out. When relaxed, then rinse, and place in the pickle.

Thanks Bruce!
