DOES IT MATTER WHICH KIND OF SALT IS USED TO SOFTEN DREIED HIDES,OR TO BRINE TO SET THE HAIR.
Avoid using Rock Salt (highly mineralized), or Kosher Salt (doesnt dissolve well). Go to your local grain store and ask for Feed mixing Salt or pickling Salt. They are fine grained, pure, and disolve easily. If they contain Yellow Prusiate of Soda - they will also work, but I prefer the type that doesnt, because the Soda slightly raises your Ph's. Also you can use iodized or non-iodized salt, the only reason the non-iodized is preferred only because its cheaper.
I needed salt to salt a deer cape and after getting it i saw on the bag that it contained Propylene glycol and calcium. this is a meat curing salt that i got at our co-op. I use lu-tan-F will this afect the tanning.
