Dry spots in deer cape

Submitted by Sandy Sharp on 11/27/00. ( sharp@todays-tech.com )

We recieved a cape that had a smell and already had hard spots on the skin. We have dry salted it. We need to know what would be the best piclking method to use. We use Lutan F for the tan. Thanks for any advice!

I would rehydrate it in water with 4oz of salt to a gallon of water. I also add some fabric softner to it a cap full. After the hide is rehydrated then you need to pickle it. You should use a great product that we all talk about called saftee-acid. Most companies carry this product now or you can get a hold of the maker Bruce Rittel.
Pickle the hide for 3 days, shave it then repickle for a day. Take out neutralize then tan.
