I HAVE A RACCOON HIDE AND A COYOTE DIDE, I SCRAPED ALL THE FLESH AND MEAT OFF AND THEN PUT PICKLING SALT ON IT FOR THREE DAYS. I THEN SCRAPED IT AGAIN. WHAT DO I DO NEXT, I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE HAIR OFF. SOMEONE TOLD ME I COULD USE A BORAX TANNING SOLUTION ON IT, BY USING 20 MULETEAM BORAX.
Aside from being impolite, if you read the instruction it says DO NOT USE ALL CAPS.
Now, for your question, you will need to have it tanned if you are planning a soft rug hide. Borax only makes rawhide and if it gets wet, it will ruin. Go to the Archives under "Tanning" and look for instructions.
the easieast way would get some liquid tan and follow the directions I hope you don't have trouble with hair slipping I was always told that after you scrape or flesh the red meat off you should salt it to get the gunk out and to set the hair especially with things like coon and coyotes the eat anything and have a higher degree of bacteria. But this may have to be addressed by someone with more experence than me
You will be the next one. In the later below thread Butch just may call you a big sissy and a cry baby ROFLMAO. I guess we here to long answering these questions for some people that were getting so old that were deaf, and there so new to forum they forget to read the rules. So BEWARE
