can I use EZ-100 after this pickle??

I started working on my first deer cape/mount before finding this wonderful forum.......my doe hide is currently pickling in an old recipe I found in a book (salt, alum & Borax). My question is, can I tan the cape after pickling using EZ-100, or did I already screw up by using alum? I want to prevent shrinkage as much as possible. Thanks in advance for any help! Shannon

It will work. Actually the EZ-100 will wash out the Alum when you place it into the EZ tanning solution. The Alum (unfortunately) is only looosely bonded to the fibers and the EZ-100 forms a stronger bonding.Thats why EZ-100 is washable and Alum isnt! you may see some cloudiness in the solution when tanning it. Its normal, the Alum is precipitating (or coming out).

Thanks for your reply and the info. That's a relief!! I am considerind this first mount a "learning experience", but I still have hopes that it will turn out nicely. Thanks!
