Wet or Dry Tan

I would like to know if Dry tanning is better than wet tanning. Also what are the advantages and disadvantages of each. I have heard that wet tanning is bad for the longevity of the mount, and a with a wet tan there will be more of a chance of the fur slipping. Also would you choose a different tan for different animals. Any answers will be appreciated

Wet of Dry?

There are pro and cons to both methods. Some who like the wet tan believe there is less final shrinkage and like not having to rehydrate. Those who like the dry tan must rehydrate and sweat before they mount, but a more complete professional tanning job, for instance combing and finish tumbling makes a easier finishing job for the taxidermist. We at K & K Tannery have converted most of our wet tanning customers to dry tans. Oh, another advantage to dry tan is freezer space which taxidermists are always in need of. By the way, most modern tans do not shrink and when rehydrated hides will give you at least the original measurements sometimes more. We use Rittel's EZ100 and have had many compliments in this area.
