I HAVE JUST RECENTLY TAKEN MY FIRST YOTE. THE SKINING JOB DIDN'T GO AS WELL AS HOPED. I WOULD LIKE ADVICE ON SKINING THE HEAD AND LEGS, HOW DO YOU GET THE PAWS? ALSO I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO USE BORAX FOR DRYING THE PELT, BUT HAVE HEARD ALOT ABOUT SALT WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? IF I JUST WANT A RUG DO I NEED TO TAN OR CAN IT JUST BE RAWHIDE?

I am not trying to be a smart a-- but it might be better to freeze the coyote and get a good video on skinning and tanning. call WASCO and request a video on skinning and tanning. You will be way ahead of the game.

Borax is wrong.

Never heard of using borax to dry, for fur trade they are air dried after scraping and salted for tanning in this industry. Mix a little Borax in water and test the pH for yourself with litmus paper. Remembering that the more borax the higher the pH. the higher the pH the easier for slippage to occur.

What proplems did you encounter in skinning the yote?
