No salt, No refridgeration, Week from civilization

I had a guy ask me what to do if you are caribou hunting in alaska, and you can't take in 50 lbs of salt, and you aren't going to be flown out for over a week? How do you keep the cape from slipping?

And cold out, keep the hide clean and out of the sun, then hope for the best. Mother Natures weather in Alaska is usually on your side.

Try Dry Preservative

I would take along some Dry preservative since it does not weigh as much as salt,Keep the hide dry and ship home so it can then be rehydrated, then proceed with the salt, pickle & tanning process.
I do not use DP but if I was in that situation,I would do this.
Hope this helps and if anyone else has a different suggestion it would be appreciated.

Salt

You don't need 50lbs of salt. 4 to 6 pounds should do it and he should have no problems taking that amount with him.
