One more question about Saftee Acid. Can I leave deer hides in the Pickle longer than the initial 3 days before I take them out and shave thin?( without any adverse effects). I ran into a time problem and will not be able the flesh them on the 3rd day as the instructions say. Thanks for the help!
..I've left hides in there for more than 3 months at a time, no problems. Just be sure to check the pH occasionally, and to stir the hides.
Mike, I usually end up leaving some hides in for 3 weeks or sometimes longer as Im taking in more heads to skin. The main thing is to check youre ph and agitate it daily so that you dont end up having any of the skin fold up on itself and end up out of the pickle.I didnt agitate one hide as I should have and I had mold start growing on the portion of the hide that was out of the pickle, luckily it didnt hurt the hide and it tanned just fine, that is after Ileft it in the pickle another 4 days this time not forgetting to agitate it daily as it should be done,hope this helps.
