thin skinned hides?

Submitted by Matt on 3/12/01. ( stender@doorpi.net ) 12.28.99.4

I have done quite a few whitetail hides(as rugs) and a few odds and ends here and there and really enjoy it.. But thinner hides give me trouble even early bow killed deer. I always seem to rip hides when fleshing, Am i being to concerned about getting it clean from the get go or am i just doing it wrong. I just use an draw knife and beam.
Where should i seek further information relitive to todays process(keep in mind i am not yet a buisness)

thanks
Matt

If you are ripping deer hides you need to think about sharpening your knife. Or are you cutting holes? We all cut holes, just sew them up and go on, do more hide=more practices=better qua;ity for you.
