I have access to salt containing propylene glycol will this cause any problems when used for salting hides or when adding to pickles or tanning solutions? It's generally use for foods such as pickles and hotdogs.I know that we should use salt containing no additives but its a large amount and I was wondering if it would hurt the hides in any way.

ANTIFREEZE. in small amounts it is alleged to be safe for humans to eat. I would avoid it for tanning pruposes, it could react with many of the tanning chemicals. Kinda like mixing bleach and ammonia, not a good thing. This weekend past I had DAWN soap react and give off clorine gas.
