Just looking for the correct way to rehydrate coyote hides that have been fleshed and air dried. looking just to tan and hang from the nose, not mounted. do i need a relaxer or can i just get away with soaking in salt water? appreciate any information thanks.
Matt,
You can rehydrate in salt water 1#salt to every gal of water,to be safe use a cap ful of lysol or a Bactericide. I have had good luck with lysol but many say do not use. Do not leave it in solution for a long time, just long enough to soften.
Hope this helps Rob
Matt,
I would recomend that you try a Bruce Rittel product called ULTRA SOFT RELAXER.Its about the best relaxing agent out on the market! It will even relax African salt dried birds and flint dried skins.Freezer burned fish, salt dried skins and others.
1 oz. per gallon of water for a strong mix and 1 oz per every 2 gal.of water for a weaker mix.Great stuff!
If you'de like further info on this, give me a call at (1-800)843-3320 ext.105 or e-mail me at this address.
Have a good day,

You can rehydrate your skins in a solution of 1/4 lb salt to each
gallon of water, and 1/2 oz of Relax R, to each gallon of water.
You won't want a high salt content because this will restrict
rehydration. You can get RELAX R from me or one of my 28
dealers.
