Is there a time schedule for tanning, for different animals skins?
I mean,if it is stated to leave a deer cape in for 14 to 16 hours, does it take that amount of time to tan a well fleshed, pickled fox skin? Is there a minimum time, for light skins?
ALSO,Do you rinse the skins, after comming out of the tan, before oiling?[to get the salt from the hair, that was in the tanning mix?]
Keep it simple and safe! Develope good habits and stay with a set routine for producing the same reliable consistent results every time. I tan "everything" for 16-20 hours. That includes Muskrats, Foxes, Coyotes, WT Deer, Moose, Bison. They are all fully tanned in EZ-100 in that time. Obviously the larger thickly fleshed skins are also shaven first.
And Yes - rinse the skins coming out of the tan, and before oiling! It removes any debris as well as any excess salt.
