Some guys say to let the skin dry rock hard then pickle,Some like John Belluci in his video say to put in pickle after a couple of hours.Ihave some small mammals;ring tail,oppossum,ect.like to know which way to go. Thanks, Rick.
Rick, you can go straight to the pickling process after salting for several hours, but the reason a lot of us let the skin salt dry is because it helps to really lock the hair in. I used to go straight to the pickle after salting for 24 hours . I watched a tape from Bruce Rittel on tanning and he suggested letting youre skins salt dry to lock in the hair, I was some what skeptical but thought I would give it a try.I did notice that in letting the skins dry the epidermis slippage around the eyes has pretty much stopped and the hair on the hides is much tighter.
