Effective way to flesh beaver hides

Submitted by c.kent on 3/29/01. ( )

I was wondering what techniques and tools you guys use on beaver hides to flesh them. I recently tried one on my beam and with my blade that normally make short work of deer. That fat and stuff was on there like superglue! What do I need to do? HELP! Thanks!

Years ago I had an old guy (that's when I was a kid and he must have been about 40 LOL)tell me that the very best way he had was to run the pelts through the wringers of the old wringer clothes washing machines. (You'll have to look that up as I doubt you're old enough to know what I'm talking about. They are antiques now). As for me, I use the round knife on my fleshing machine.

use a draw shave on a fleshing beam.a blanket beaver takes about 15-20 min.to do.i've done approx.750-800 beavers over my years of trapping.did them all this way.
