I have a salted elephant tail that I would like to tan/pickle without losing the hair. Any suggestions on the best tanning process or pickling formula?
Over the years I have tried all the pickles. Still FORMIC ACID I think is the best, followed by WASCO's acid crstals.
Saftey acid is ok but does not penetrate as well or as fast.
Stay away from CITRIC ACID, it is a edible food additive, you can eat the stuff, mater of fact you eat it everyday, all lemon and lime products contain citric acid.
Acetic acid (vinegar ) works well it is a weaker form of formaic acid.
For the tan, Lutan works very well.
