I am mounting a small raccoon (lifesize) and intend to use Liqua Tan. The stuff seems real sticky and leaves a crusty residue on the edges of the fur when I have used it in the past. What can I use to clean this off the fur side when i am moutning/sewing the hide on the form? Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.
Here is the simple method for using it.
One, after you did all the prep work like pickled it and shaved it and so on. The next step after you apply the liqua-tan to it is to either freeze it for a week or let it set over night. This will give the hide plenty of time to soak in all the tanning agents. After you take it out of the freezer I let it thaw out and wash it in ERA laundry detergent. The same goes for the skin left out over night. Then you can tumble it in your dryer with a bunch of towels to get the moisture out. Now it's ready for mounting. You will have a real clean hide to work with.
