Hello out there ! I'm a rookie getting started doing taxidermy bases. I'm a perfectionist and I love putting as much detail into my bases as I can. I am doing a lot of reading to learn how to properly mount small mammals to add to the realism of my bases. Some of the books I've read say animals up to the size of a fox can simply be rubbed with borax and mouted like a bird, while others recommend full hide prep and tanning procedures. Any suggestions to what is best? Any better book suggestions? Also, some of the books are recommending the old "build your own" method of making a mount form. Is this still done or is it an out dated method. Are foam forms best all the way or just for larger animals(fox and larger)? Any help/advice would be greatly Appreciated
Thanks a bunch!
