freezing a salted cape

Submitted by Tom on 4/14/01. ( ) 209.176.87.92

I just fleshed and salted my first whitetail cape. It was salted for 3
days and still was not getting very stiff(dry). I hope I didn't jump the
gun but I put it back in the freezer.I planned on pulling it out washing,
and using Rineharts cream tan when ready to mount. How long should it take
dry rock hard, and if I messed up is there anything I can do to save it?
Thanks in advance!

Salted cape

Tom, Salted capes won't freeze very well. Salt is used to melt ice and snow on roads. Pull your cape back out. Shake off salt, re-salt it and let it dry hard. Rehydrate it in a salt water solution with basacryl. Shave, tan and mount it. Feel free to email me if you have anyquestions. Good luck, Kent

After salting the second time, put in front of fan. it will dry rock hard in about 2 days.
