I am dehairing and tanning what was let over after caping the deer can anyone give me some idea on a fair price on buckskin by sq. foot or sq. yard thanks for your help Wink
Wink,
You aren't talking much for deer hides. I can buy a whole buckskin from Van Dykes for less than $50. With the very little usable hide you have left, you shouldn't expect more than $15 to $20. That's a job you'd do simply to have some around the shop and selling it would be questionable. If you have the bad fortune to have some of the Indian wannabes around, they'll want you to give it to them.
We charge $40. for a back half and I don't think thats enough. By the time I get done fleshing , salting , punch coding , boxing , shipping to and from the tannery, checking in the hide , notifing the cliente. I don't think thats a enough. Any less than that and I might as well go work at McDonalds.
I can buy top quality buckskin for less that $2 a square foot. If you can't beat that
why bother with it.
LOL, Old, I was GOING to say that but I'm working on my image.OTFLMAO
At least that gives me some Idea
